JANUARY 2022 EXCITING NEWS PRESS RELEASE:
Explore Mississippi Mills
Jan 2022 NEWS
Did you know Mississippi Mills will be celebrating 200 years in 2023?
This is REALLY BIG DEAL! We want to celebrate all year long in every corner of our amazing Municipality and we need your help!
Mississippi Mills was formed as a result of the amalgamation of the Townships of Ramsay, The Town of Almonte, The Village of Pakenham and Pakenham Township. 1823 is the year that saw European settlers living in all wards of Mississippi Mills. Ramsay Township completed their surveying in 1821, Pakenham settlers started to move into the area in 1823 and Almonte was originally settled as Shipman Mills in 1823.
Also since Mississippi Mills amalgamated in 1998, 2023 will mark the 25th Anniversary of our Municipality! It really is a perfect year to celebrate!
During this Bicentennial year (2023) it will be critically important we honour our regions earliest inhabitants: the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation. Efforts will be made to ensure the appropriate recognition is planned parallel to the 200th celebrations. 2023 events and initiatives will include recognition, and respect of Indigenous Peoples.
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN! The Municipality is forming a Mississippi Mills Bicentennial Planning Committee (MMBPC) Mississippi Mills is made up of incredible and unique people, and each of our hamlets and villages are special in their own ways.
This committee will be made up of 7 subcommittees each focusing on a specific aspect or region of the Municipality.
This means you can apply to be on a subcommittee that represents you or your town or village! Help us make sure this year long celebration is exactly what you want it to be.
