Christmas in Mississippi Mills 2020
Celebrating may look a little different this year but the Christmas spirit is alive and well in our communities.
To keep everyone safe and healthy into 2021 we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel Light Up the Night and our traditional Santa Claus Parades. We put our thinking caps on and partnered with some friends to offer you a variety of activities that we hope will keep the joy of the holidays alive in our community.
If you have any questions about the items below don’t hesitate to reach out!
Let’s Light Up Our Town
The Municipality of Mississippi Mills plans to recognize the very best in holiday decorations throughout the community! We want to see your best Clark Griswold impersonations. There could even be a reward for your efforts !
We may not have Light Up the Night this year but that doesn’t mean we can’t Light Up Our Town. We are excited to have partnered with Tavis and Jacob of “What’s Happening in Mississippi Mills” to offer an interactive map! The map will allow people to register their homes so that we can all use the map to drive around and enjoy the lights – think of it as your own personal Christmas night parade.
To have your decorated home (or business) considered for the contest please visit the link below and add your address to the map online by Friday, December 11, 2020.
Santa Claus is Coming to Town (in a Fire Truck!)
We had to cancel our annual Christmas parades this year. Santa Claus still really wants to come to town to say hello to all the Mississippi Mills kids who have been extra good this year.
Lucky for us the Mississippi Mills Fire Department is here to help! December 5th and 6th Santa will make 5 trips around different parts of Mississippi Mills.
While he can’t pass by every house, he’s making a special effort to see as many of you as possible. If you are from a rural area or your street isn’t on the route, please head to the closest area he will pass (maps and dates below). There will be plenty of space for social distancing. You can also sit in your parked car along the route.
Food Bank Donations
This year more than ever it’s important to remember those in need. Our local Firefighters will follow along behind Santa to collect donations for the food bank. Donations of cash or food will be accepted. If your house is directly on the route, you can leave your donation in a bag at the end of your driveway and watch from your porch. You can also hand it directly to one of the Firefighters who will be walking the route collecting (remember your mask). Download the Food Banks Most Wanted Items.
Letters to Santa
Kids bring you letters! One of Santa’s helpers will follow along and take your letters and they’ll make sure Santa Claus gets them.
COVID-19 Safety Precautions
If you do walk down the street to watch make sure you practice social distancing and stay 6 feet back from anyone not in your household. If you are planning to hand letters or food back donations to the Firefighters please bring and wear a mask.
Santa’s Mississippi Mills Weekend Schedule – December 5th and 6th
Santa Claus and the Fire Department will be starting out in each area at the times listed below. Since they will be travelling slowly, times are approximate. Listen for the siren and the loud HO HO HO! Click the links below to see each map for information on where you will see them pass.
Joyful Holiday Messages from Our Community
We may not be able to see each other face to face but that doesn’t mean we can’t share holiday greetings! Sing us your favorite Christmas Carol, or just send a simple hello. We want to heard from everyone.
Don’t forget to come back often to see what your neighbours have sent in.
