On the evening of Thursday, August 5th, the Glengarry Pioneer Museum will host its first live music event in two years. The museum’s popular “Classical Music Under the Stars” event is returning with a special program that pays homage to Glengarry’s rural roots. Whimsically named “Moosic Under the Stars,” it will feature works with an agrarian or pastoral theme including Mozart’s Sonata K332 in F Major, Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata, and Erik Satie’s Gymnopedie. The evening’s soloist performer will be concert pianist Nicholas Deek from Ottawa. Mr. Deek holds a Master’s degree in music performance. On top of teaching classical piano technique, he also has a very active performance schedule.
The concert will be held — rain or shine. In the case of poor weather, it will be held under the Williams Pavilion. Socially-distanced seating will be provided. However, organizers are hoping it will take place outdoors, under the evening stars. So don’t forget your favourite lawn chair or a blanket… and bug spray. You can even come early, bring a picnic supper and dine al fresco before the concert.
As provincial Stage 3 regulations require that the museum limit attendance at outdoor events to 75% of capacity, it’s suggested that you purchase your tickets in advance through the museum web site’s convenient new Online Box Office. There may be some tickets for sale at the door, but there’s no guarantee. The cost is $20 per person, or $15 for museum members. Proceeds from the fundraising concert will go towards supporting the museum’s operations and maintenance, as well as community outreach programs.
If you’ve never been to the museum in Dunvegan before, it’s located at the intersection of County Roads 24 and 30. For more details, contact Jennifer Black at 613-527-5230 or visit our web site: GlengarryPioneerMuseum.ca.
