Event Dates:
Explore Mississippi Mills ~ Dr. James Naismith Museum ~ Mill of Kintail Conservation Area
Mill of Kintail ~ Mississippi Mills
About 10 minutes from Almonte, the Mill of Kintail Conservation Area features extensive hiking and skiing trails accessible year-round.
Visit the R. Tait McKenzie Museum to see famous Canadian artworks from the 1930s, and 1832 architecture. Draw inspiration from the natural scenery just like A.Y. Jackson once did in this spot.
Visit the museum dedicated to the inventor of basketball, James Naismith.
From 1989 until 2009 the early collection of Naismith artifacts was known as the Naismith Museum and Hall of Fame. Since 2009, the Hall of Fame artifacts have been in the possession of Canada Basketball.
In 2011, the Naismith collection found permanent residence at the Mill of Kintail Conservation Area, a shared space with the R. Tait McKenzie Memorial Museum. It is a story come full circle, as the two men were boyhood friends and further known as the Brothers of the Wind.
The museum contains pictures and artifacts from Naismith’s past and a brilliantly laid-out story about his life. The museum also contains the very rock of which Naismith played his childhood game of “Duck on a Rock” — the game that set the foundation for the rules of basketball.
Check their website often for up-to-date details, enjoy!
