THE HOLIDAY SEASON AT THE CAPITOL ~ Port Hope
Start New and Renewed Traditions!
THE HOLIDAY SEASON AT THE CAPITOL ALSO INCLUDES THE 27TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF
LIGHTS AND TREES AND SPECIAL HOLIDAY CONCERTS.
HOLIDAY MAGIC AT THE CAPITOL THEATRE PORT HOPE
Celebrating the holiday season is serious business at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Hope. Each December, the Capitol opens its doors to the community for live theatre, music, and a decades-old and beloved tradition: the Festival of Lights and Trees.
“The Capitol has a long tradition of hosting holiday programming for everyone in our community,” shares Rob Kempson, Artistic Director. “We are proud to invite audiences of all backgrounds into the theatre to celebrate the season — a part of many annual traditions. We always aim to make memories at the Capitol, but there is no better time to do that when there’s something to celebrate.”
THEATRE FOR THE NAUGHTY… & NICE!
Each year the Capitol Theatre commissions an annual holiday panto, and this year it’s Jack – A Beanstalk Panto with both naughty and nice versions. Written and directed by award-winning star of stage and screen, Rebecca Northan, it’s magic, murder, and mayhem with a hearty dash of holiday cheer. Jack – A Beanstalk Panto stars Christy Bruce, Paul Constable, Robbie Fenton, Madison Hayes-Crook, Clea McCaffrey, Zoe O’Connor, Hal Wesley Rogers and Steve Ross. It’s a can’t-miss holiday theatre offering.
ENJOY THE TREES – FOR FREE!
The Capitol’s 27th annual Festival of Lights and Trees is one of Northumberland County’s premier holiday events, and it’s available to enjoy for free during your holiday visit to the Capitol. Since its inception in 1997, this annual fundraising initiative has been a community favourite, creating memories and becoming a free holiday tradition for guests of all ages, all while raising essential operating funds for the Capitol Theatre.
During display times, guests have the option to purchase a raffle ticket and enter to win all of the beautiful decorations adorning the trees plus a Capitol Theatre 2024 Summer Season Subscription. The prize draw takes place at the Capitol on Monday, December 18 at 11 a.m.
Plus – try your luck in the second-annual Capitol Theatre Digital 50/50. Last year’s winner went home with $20,645! This draw takes place on January 1, 2024.
BUT WAIT – THERE’S MORE!
If you love music, the Capitol also has a full line up of live concerts on stage throughout December, including:A Lunch at Allen’s Christmas; John McDermott; the Good Lovelies Christmas Tour; Tommy Youngsteen signs Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA”; and Elton Rohn, from Ron Camilleri.
