Ongoing Events, Activities, Exhibits, Fun Fact Video Fridays and more…
Welcome to the Museum of Northern History at the Sir Harry Oakes Chateau. Step through the ornate doors of the Chateau and travel back in time to when gold was king. Witness the hardy life of the early pioneers and their struggles as they forged a community out of the unforgiving wilderness. Explore the inner workings of some of the richest mines in Canadian history. Marvel at the tenacity of Sir Harry Oakes, one of the poorest men to walk into, and one of the richest to walk out of the northern goldfields.
Mystery, adventure, excitement… it’s all waiting for you at the Museum of Northern History.
Permanent exhibits housed within the Chateau represent North Eastern Ontario geographically, culturally and economically. See exhibits on the prosperous Kirkland Lake Gold Camp, geology, local businesses and industries, the pioneers of Kirkland Lake and local heroes. The museum also features themed temporary exhibits, and hosts between 8-10 art exhibitions each year from local, regional and international artists.
